SYL Song Pick – Learn To Fly by The Knocks

SYL Song Pick - Learn To Fly by The Knocks

So what better way to kick off the weekend than with our good friends from The Knocks. We first caught a glimpse of “Learn To Fly” last time the duo was performing in the island and it killed. Now we finally get the studio version and it is even better. I can’t say this enough… these guys know how to write a great tune. The production quality is great and JPatt really knows how to swoon over the synth heavy dance number. Congrats boys, this is a smash! Enjoy.

You can get this track for free if u like their FB page. GET ON IT!

SYL Local Artist Pick – ShugarFree

SYL Local Artist Pick - ShugarFree

I like featuring local talents here but I’ve struggled to find the correct platform to acknowledge and adulate such endeavors. With this post I plan to celebrate those who venture into unknown territories in our musical landscape.

Throughout the past couple of years I’ve become more aware of the raw talent this little island has to offer. It is most definitely something worth writing about. I have covered other local artists in the past such as Diego Mena, Juango Davalos, Nelson Garcia, TangoWhiskyMan among others,  so  think of this as the natural progression.

With this installment it is our pleasure here at SYL to finally let loose one of our best kept secrets. For months we’ve been privy to the creative genius of Mr. Rafa Melo. SYL collaborator and a modern-day renaissance man, Rafa’s musical project ShugarFree first single “Maybe It’s Time” is a burst of 80′s surfer new wave rock. Most of you who occupy this speck of land will find the tune recognizable thanks to its prominent use in The One’s latest ad campaign. Believe me when I tell you “Maybe Its Time” is a beast of its own. Take a listen and hooray for free downloads!! Enjoy.

SYL Retro Song Pick – Money’s Too Tight To Mention by Simply Red

SYL Retro Song Pick - Money's Too Tight To Mention by Simply Red

Simply Red were a British soul band that sold more than 50 million albums over a 25-year career. Their style drew influences from blue-eyed soul, New Romantic, rock, reggae and jazz. Since their early days the main driving force behind the band was singer Mick Hucknall, who by the time the band broke up in 2010 was the only original member left.
